PAINTING the rooms in your home leaves much to consider, including what colors are known to knock a couple of hundred dollars off your home’s value.
Andra DelMonico, Lead Interior Designer for Trendey, clued us in on the colors that are lessening the worth of our sweet abodes.
BRIGHT COLORS ARE AN EYESORE
As fun as they can be, DelMonico suggested generally avoiding bright colors in any room.
“Intense and vibrant colors will decrease the value of your home no matter where they are used.
“This is because they tend to be an assault on the eyes, so if a buyer doesn’t already love your chosen color, the odds are high that they won’t like it in your home,” she explained.
SLATE GRAY IS DREARY
Slate gray will also decrease the value of your home, according to DelMonico. And though gray is a popular neutral, it’s only appealing when you choose the right shade.
DelMonico suggested an alternative: “Stay away from slate gray, which is a dull mid-grade shade. Instead, pick a color that is a soft pale shade or a sophisticated darker shade.”
PINK AND PRIMARY COLORS SHOULD BE CUT
Pink is often a symbol of femininity and a common choice when painting a baby girls’ nursery. Despite this, you may want to know that pink could play a role in the devaluation of your home.
DelMonico advised straying away from the color, along with some other unfit contenders: “Avoid pink in any room in your house. It will decrease your home’s value no matter what room you use it in.
“It’s one of the least appealing colors and can drop your home value by thousands. Other colors to just avoid totally are bright primary yellow or vibrant green.”
RED IN THE KITCHEN IS A NO NO
As classic as red is for other functions, it shouldn’t be your go-to when painting your home.
“One color that might surprise you, red, can actually decrease your home’s value when used in the kitchen.
“Bright red may look attractive in social media posts, but it can decrease your home’s value by over $1,000,” detailed DelMonico.
COLORS THAT INCREASE HOME VALUE
To increase your home value, DelMonico said to paint your bathroom a light blue shade.
“Its soothing style will have mass appeal and can increase your home value by thousands.”
As for the kitchen, the best color is white. While other home color trends come and go, white never loses its spot among the top favorite colors for the kitchen.
It will make your home look timeless and add value to your home.
